Friday February 27th, 2009 Joel Yip Chuck from TNT in Guelph put on a great show with over 300 people in attendance. They came from every corner of Guelph to watch ten great bouts. Holler...they sure did. Support their local boxers, you betcha. The canteen was so busy they could not keep up to the demand. Food became available but went so fast, that we missed it. Just a buzzing show. The Chief Official Bill Hardy did his job terrifically & he ref'd along with Brodie Boone. The other officials were Shawn Barclay, Jon Broom, Sherry Boone & timekeep was Bobby Bland from Blands Boxing in Fort Erie. We were very privileged to have the great Dr. Joe Falleta from Hamilton working the show. Dr. Joe has been in the boxing programs for well over 35 years. He serves the OBA well & is an OBA life-time honourary member. Opening the night from TNT was Daniel Csoka in the 170 lb division against Loyalist's Shane Wright from Belleville. This was a battle from the ringing of the bell to the end of the 3rd round. No body gave an inch. Tough bout ending in a split decision & good for a rematch. 2nd bout featured London's King Street club's Alicia Champagne in the 140 lb division against Destiny's Jessica Camara from Kitchener. These gals were like two firecrackers. Throwing punches from every angle. Good bout gals. 3rd bout had the host's Brayden (Brady) Keating in the 120 lb division against Loyalist's Jesse LeRiche from Belleville. The split decision was earned at the end of this bout. The scores were 59-58 & that is close. 4th bout had Andrew MacDonald from TNT returning to the ring after an absence to battle Darren Fletcher from Black Eye in Brantford in the 160 lb division. This was another close bout. A 2-1 decision again. The 2-1 decisions are a compliment to the match-maker. It means that Joel, the match-maker made the bouts very close & fair. 5th bout had King Street's Tiffany Nugent from London tipping the scales at light feather & battling Destiny's Jen Fisher from Kitchener. Seems Kitchener is sending out all the boxers to warm up for the upcoming Golden Gloves in April. Well guess what...all the clubs are doing the same. These two gals sparred off well. 6th bout featured the super heavies, from TNT Kody Yetman & from Destiny Slavko Saric. This was a close bout. First one was ahead & then the other took the lead. They threw everything except the kitchen sink at each other. Good fight & both stalkers. 7th bout had Alex Viola from TNT against Shawn Murray from Destiny in the middle weight division. Boy...everybody wants the win & try .. well they sure did. Some overhand rights were hitting the mark. Nice work out for both guys. 8th bout featured TNT's Luke Chisholm from a layoff against Boone's Jeremy Abbott in the welter weight division. This fight had a controversal decision. Both boxers threw almost as many punches to match the talking they did in the ring. Hey guys...the ref is going to get you yet.. Outside the ring, these cool guys are not loud or mouthy unless pushed. But inside they ran their own talk show. Nice hits. Good counters. Two good boxers. Split decision 2-1. 9th bout had Old School's Jade Walsh from Hamilton at 126 lbs against the fast moving Ricky Pacheco from Blands in Fort Erie. Jade can punch & is a stalker. Ricky moves like a butterfly using every inch of the ring as his auditorium. Good bout. This gives these guys one win each now. 10th bout & the MAIN EVENT featured the city's all-star Paul Rasmussen who brought his own fan club with him. He tipped the scales at 195 lb of solid body against the slightly lighter but no slouch, Scott (Hit man) Elliott from Primetime in Oakville. Paul came out smokin which is not his normal style. Paul usually feels out his opponent but then again he studied Scott fight at Bill William's last show. Scott is not a slow starter & definitely not a slow finisher. Scott is a good all round athlete with the physique to prove it. Great body puncher. This bout had everyone on the edge of their chairs. When guys this size box it can be unpredictable. This was a great 4 round good bout with no one throwing anything except legal clean punches. Great defense from both boxers. Those body punches left me with sore ribs. Totally a great night. Good show. Noisy crowd. Replay please & good nite! |
