Saturday February 20th, Hamilton Convention Centre located at 1 Summers Lane, Hamilton, Ont.

Some spectators were turned away at the door. This was a 'sold out' event & we are sorry for those that were turned away. This was an 18 bout card & featured many Hamilton boxers but with only one from Old School Boxing Club, operated by Charles Sr. & Charles Jr. Biggs from Barton Street's training centre. The host, Brodie Boone had his hands full with the 14 boxers from his club competing. He had some great helpers like famed pro boxer Justin 'The Matrix' Fountain; former pro Adam Rochon; Blair Huffman current amateur boxer & the list goes on.

The show opened at 7:25 with the announcer, Gentleman Geoff, giving the hype & shortly thereafter, entering the ring from River City in Sarnia, William Penkwitz in the 128 lb division against Muhammad Ali, from Hamilton in a very close & active bout. The decision was split at 2-1 which illustrates how close that bout was. Maybe a rematch for River City's March 20th show?
The ladies entered next with an exhibition from Tanya Robertson from Loyalist in Belleville pitted against Jeanette Capton from Hamilton. Tanya threw perfect shots with speed & Jeanette used her skill to combat the stiff shots. Good bout ladies
The 3rd bout had Ethan Schwandt from Charbs, in Durham at 220 lbs senior against Don Wonch from the Hamilton Club. This battle was a serious battle with loads of action. Great for a rematch - perhaps at Derek's show in Durham in April?
The 4th bout featured the ladies with Mandy Taylor from River City against Hamilton's Kylie Fallis in the 130 lb division. Again, a deserved split decision.
The 5th bout had Old School's Anthony Kuznik in the 135 lbs senior open division against Derek Charbonneau from Charbs in Durham. This was the 'rubber' match & a mover against a banger but it was exciting to watch. Good match guys. Will you meet at the Gloves in April?
The 6th bout featured Destiny, from Kitchener's smooth moving Lucas Rowe at 140 lbs against the 'Energizer' Ryan Calhoun from Boomerz in London. Closely fought bout. Both nice guys but in the ring....hey, everyone wants to have their hand raised.
Bobby Newbigging from Charbs in Durham at 150 lbs fought in the Open class division against Hamilton's Brett Huffman. Brett moved well & stayed away from that hard hitting natural right of Bobby. Bobby allowed little punches to get through with his defensive action. Brett earned the 'Best Technical Boxer' of the night award-now that shows what that bout had. It had power. It had defence. It had good moves. It had excitement. Great bout guys.
In the 8th bout Jessica Camara from Destiny, Kitchener in the 135 lbs open division fought Julie Cybulski from Ring London in probably the best bout Julie has fought. Julie stayed more on her toes & moved in & out with flurries. Jessica's game plan was shaken with the change in Julie's style but this was a crowd pleasing bout & both gals looked good..
In the 9th bout - the big boys entered the ring. Vern Insley from Lakeview in Goderich against Blair Huffman from Hamilton. This was a gruelly battle with both boxers not giving an inch but each throwing some heavy duty blasters. This bout earned the 'Best Bout' of the night & deservingly so.
The 10th bout in the 125 division featured Mitch Schuett from Charbs in Durham against Namah Daghir from Hamilton. These boxers fought a bout that earned Namah the 'Most Technical Boxer' of the night award. That is not to say that Mitch was lax because he was fast moving & constant with nice throws & Brett couldn't win the award without a game opponent with good combatting skills. This would be a good rematch.
The 11th bout at 170 lbs featured Joel Paquette from Lakeview in Goderich against McEwan's Matthew Riggs from North York. This was the first bout for both but you could have fooled me. Joel looked like he had a few battles in his day & Matthew with Everton in his corner, came ready for the bout. Everyone was glad to see Everton back in the corner.
The 12th bout featured Jon Edgar from Boone's in Niagara Falls with Hank Boone & Ben Burleigh in the corner. Yes, Hank Boone is the host, Brodie Boone's father. Anyway, in the opposite corner was Troy Trumble from Loyalist in Belleville with Jay Davies who has advanced well as a boxing coach. This was an very interesting bout as both boxers were good hitters & a little more skill to Troy but the power ended with Jon.
The 13th bout had ladies McKenzie Gryn from Ring London in the 133 lbs senior division against Patricia Griffin from Hamilton. This was a well fought bout by both ladies. They proved worthy of each other & certainly they both have a great future in boxing.
The 14th bout had that hard hitting Rita Lwanga in the open class 130 lbs division. Rita from The Boxing Loft, with Emile Reed, in Toronto met up with Amanda Beaudin, the sweetheart of Hamilton. Rita has good power & a great chin. Amanda is a 'Punching Machine' who doesn't know reverse. Great bout, ladies...you guys are great!
The 15th bout featurued Will Whyte from Hamilton with Hank working Will's corner while Brodie, the son worked Andrew 'Jet' Burgos from Hamilton's corner. The power looked like it was the 'Jet's' but Will agressed & threw very nice combinations.
The 16th bout had the ladies, Heather Stuart from Boomerz at 135 lbs in the senior open division against Katie Lynch from Hamilton who returned after a one year leave. This bout was about who wanted the win more. Quick hard punches were thrown by both. These ladies put a new name to 'Ladies in the Ring'. Great match!
The 17th bout featured Boomerz, from London's Brandon Bridges with Lawrence the current coach & the former coach Kirk Killam in Brandon's corner against Duane Schutten from Hamilton in the 150 lbs senior division. This bout was gruelling & a little bloody when a cut appeared on Duane's brow. The bout was stopped because of the injury.
The final bout of the night..featured heavy & giant Tyler Warner from Ring London against Hamilton's Justin Gallagher. This bout was a 'MAIN' event with lots of action. Heavies are always unpredicatable. Both these guys gave it their best to the crowd's pleasure.

A great night with great people from Dr. Joe Falletta at ringside as the doctor of the event & Chief Official, Bill Hardy assisted by officials: Raymond Olubowale, Isaac Maich, Phil Assuncao, Jon Broom, Shawn Hardy & Ben Burleigh along with administrator, Sherry Boone who would have appreciated seeing more of the bouts but was under hordes of paper work.
