Charbs Sturdauy August 29th 2009
What a terrific
night. The spectators from Durham & the
surrounding towns were treated to a great live boxing event at the
Durham Arena
on Saturday August 29, 2009 through their host & coach of Charb's Boxing Club,
Derek Charbonneau & his lovely wife Michelle. The trip was a 2+ hour drive for many of us
but the people we met were well worth the trip. Even the Deputy Mayor The night opened with Patrick Newbigging from Charb’s in Hanover tipping the scales at 185 lbs to battle Josh McCaig from Loyalist in Belleville. This was the first time, for some to attend a show where father & son both were on the card. This did happen before when Brett & his father Blair Huffman from the Hamilton Boxing Club were both on the same show. This was a very even bout.
The 3rd bout featured Todd Charlton
from River City in Sarnia at 149 lbs against Joel Pitt from Loyalist in
Belleville. Todd threw from every angle one could imagine but Slick Pitt moved
in & out with the greatest of ease. Good bout. Rematch for sure.
The 4th bout was a local introduction
for the locals, to see Mitch Schuett at 129 lbs from the host club battle Patrick
Murphy from London’s Warrior Boxing Club. This was a great match.
The 5th bout featured Austin Cooney
from Loyalist in the 140 lbs division against Ring London’s Corey
Millette. Corey is one tough dude.
Austin was vying for the win. This was a serious battle between two young
gladiators.
The 6th bout featured Charb’s own,
Derek Charbonneau the coach of Charbs, in the 134 lb division against Old
School’s Anthony Kuznik from Hamilton. The bout showed Anthony scoring well in the
first round bout Derek volleyed back with great ambitious attacks. Great battle. You should have been there for the final
round.
The 7th bout had the ladies entering
the ring. Laura Rollings from Ring London in the 145 lb division against River
City’s Mandy Taylor when Mandy was forced to quit boxing in the 2nd round
because of an asthma attack.
The 8th bout had Bobby Newbigging in
the 148 lb division against Troy Patterson from Belleville. Bobby is a hard
puncher who looked for the knock out shot & Troy is a smooth mover who
knows how to use the ring well. Rematch? Ya,
for sure.
9th bout had Sean Fraser from Charb’s
at 145 lb coming out swinging at Jeremy Abbott from Boone’s in Niagara Falls,
Sean is a natural boxer who handles himself well while Jeremy is a rounded
boxer with good hitting power & a really good chin.
10th bout had all the trimming of a
Main Event. Featuring hometown’s Jim Hutchinson at 235 lbs against 268 lb Stewart
McQueen from Boomerz in London. This was
a terrific way to end the night. These two big guys just a battling for the
win. Good bout. Good night. |
