Friday March 13, 2009 at Brantford`s Branch 90 Legion, alumnae to the OBA, now the site of Black Eye Boxing Club's home for their fight shows, & with a great crowd of about 275 people, Bill Williams, Rob Rutherford, Jack Armour, Duncan Owen & the Black Eye team, presented a terrific night of amateur boxing. All the usual's were there..Dan Slezsak on the gloves, ring girls with their young tyke in training, ring guy & the great staff on the door & the canteen was busy & the music just kept the place a rockin'.

Chief Official Bill Hardy who ref'd along with official Brodie Boone & judges, Jon Broom, Shawn Barclay & Sherry Boone were at the officials table, along with the great Dr. Joe Falletta from Hamilton. It is always a pleasure to have the event run so smoothly with
competent officials & Dr. Falletta there.

The first bout opened with Jay Davies' boxer, Chad Peters from Loyalist, Belleville in the 139 lb division against Boone's from Niagara Falls, Bryan Dizon. These teenagers gave it their best for their first time in the ring. They both fought well & we expect to see a lot more of them.

The 2nd bout had Primetime's Sean Reyes with Greg Post in the corner, against Everton' McEwan's 145 lber, Santo Chiappetta from McEwan's in Toronto. This was a tough bout. Sean had the height advantage & used it well to pump his jab but Santo is no slouch & he has a dynamite overhand right.

The 3rd bout was a eye awakener as Troy Patterson from Loyalist in the 147 met Wolves Den from Hagersville, Stu Martin with Daryl Squre (Hill) working his corner. These kids are naturals. They both had a lot of talent. Stu worked well using the ring to his advantage & Troy stayed ring center as his base. Good bout guys.

The 4th bout had Jeremy Masterson from Boomers in the 185 lb division with Lawrence Boom in his corner against Ring London's Peter Koyounian with Kelly O'Connor in the corner. Peter leaned using his weight to keep the bout in the corners & Jeremy moved to use the ring's space. Jeremy showed a lot of heart in this bout.

The 5th bout had Dave Aucoin from the host club in the 138 lb division against Boomerz Ryan Corneya. Tough bout. Tough guys. It was a rematch that will be rematched again.

The 6th bout featured from Boomerz, Heather Stewart in the 135 lb division against Ring London's Julie Cybulski. This bout had a lot of infighting & leaning. Perhaps a rematch?

The 7th bout had the heavies, John Mercantie from the host club against Mike Ghafari from Boomerz. One never predicts a super heavy weight bout & these guys were not predictable. Clean & nice shots thrown by both. The kind of bout that everyone who knows anything about boxing, likes. No leaning...no slapping...no fouls. Just clean & crisp properly thrown punches.

The 8th bout had Jung Kim from Loyalist against Will Whyte from the Hamilton Boxing Club. This was an even bout with both boxers giving & taking the bout. Good bout

The 9th had Mike Dobranski from Loyalist against the 180 lb Steve Rainford from Boomerz. Mike showed great heart & determination in this bout & certainly both have good power. Steve looked totally relaxed & ready to take whatever came at him. Very good bout for both guys.

The final & Main Event had Darren Fletcher from the host club against TNTs in Guelph, Daniel Csoka with Joel Yip Chuck in that corner. Darren the taller boxer used his straight punches while Daniel was fast with his in & out technique. Both strong boxers with good form. Great bout. Good main event.

The crowd roared & hollered - a bit loud but then again, they show the enjoyment & support of their boxers. Nice night for all.
