The OBA has changed the scoring system to a 10 point system. There will not be a point given for any knock downs, which is different that the professional boxers scoring. The punch is proper & considered a 'scoring' punch, will count as 1 part of 3 to equal a point.
All boxers must wait until the referee is in the neutral corner, before the boxer/s enter the ring. If they enter prior to the referee, they will be asked to leave the ring until the referee is in the neutral corner.
Boxers with asthma, may use their inhaler at the foot of the steps before mounting but once, at the top & engaged in the bout, if the inhaler or any meds are used, the boxer must retire from the bout.
What happens regarding a boxer being downed by a low blow?
The offending boxer who is accused of the low blow, will immediately go to the neutral corner farthermost away from the downed boxer.
The referee will commence counting to 10. If the referee counts to 10 & the boxer is unable to continue, the referee, if he saw the low blow & felt that it was either deliberate, or a previously cautioned problem, (i.e. warned offender to keep his blows higher) the referee will then disqualify the accused & award the win to the downed boxer. The disqualified boxer will leave the ring with his corner men & not accept any award. The offending boxer will remain in the neutral corner until the referee advised him to return to his own corner & the offender MAY NOT converse with anyone while there.
If the referee is unsure about the position of the low blow, & this is without any prior warning or caution regarding any low punching, the referee will go to each judge & ask if they saw a low blow & if they believe the low blow to be deliberate. If the majority of judges saw the low blow, then the referee must make a decision regarding 4 choices.
Disqualify offender - RSCi to the downed boxer & winner to the offender - r No contest therefore no winner - allow 5 minute recuperation time & then decide on one of 3 options.
If the downed boxer stepped into the low blow causing an unintentional injury (low blow) to himself, then there will be no disqualification & the downed boxer will lose the bout due to injury. RSCi
If the referee deems that the downed boxer was hit with an accidental low blow, then the referee will allow up to 5 (five) minutes for the boxer to recuperate. If the boxer can not recuperate, the bout will be ruled 'no contest' & no winner will be named. The referee will send the boxer to the doctor immediately.
If the referee believes the boxer can not physically continue the referee should call in the attending physician for his assessment. If the downed boxer is deemed unable to continue - if deliberate low blow or pre warned low blow, disqualify the offender - if accidental then 'no contest' or RSCHi depending on circumstances.
If the referee feels the bout could continue & feels that the downed boxer is not wanting to continue, the referee may deem the bout a loss for the downed boxer due to injury. RSCi (Referee stop contest - injury) or simply RSC (Referee stop contest).
If the foul caused the injury but the bout continues each judge will deduct one point from the offending boxer. The referee should instruct the judges to take one point off but even if the referee continues the bout without that direction, the judges will take off one point.
Standing 8 counts & their significance
An 8 count does not cause the boxer to lose a point. The 8 count does not have any significance to the bout. It permits the referee an assessment time & provides the boxer time to be assessed. The blow that forced the 8 count may have not been a legal blow & therefore, no point would occur but if the blow was a legal landing blow then the offending boxer would receive one point which is only 1/3rd of a point.
At no time, if the referee passes the count of 8, can the boxer continue in the fight.
On Break
When the referee calls 'break' each boxer will step back to leave a minimum of 5 feet between both boxers. They may commence their bout after stepping back but if a boxer does not step back to assist in creating the gap of at least 5 feet, then any blow struck would be a foul & will be treated as such.
Boxers in need of assistance
Boxers whose family is unable to pay for his costs or equipment should go to your City Hall & inquire about the 'Jumpstart' program or other bursaries set up by private funding to assist athletes in memory of various persons.

Magnesium = a healthier body that will last longer
What is calcium to your body? Without sufficient calcium, your bones develop osteoporosis & that means, a fall could break your bones & in severe cases, a hug would break your bones. Found mostly in dairy products.
What is magnesium to your body? Well it is a mineral that few people actually think about. Magnesium is required for more than 300 biochemical reactions in your body. A magnesium deficiency can result in hypertension, muscle cramps, restless leg syndrome, diabetes, migraine attacks, emotional trouble, fatigue & irregular heart rate. June 24th 2011, at the Hershey Centre Hank Boone fell over & his heart stopped. The paramedics were able to jump start his heart & saved his life. The doctors said that only about 3% of people whose heart stop & are jumped back, live greater than 24 hours after the episode. Hank's heart stopped because he had very little magnesium. Magnesium is nature's heart relaxant. Patients who suffered from angina often had low blood levels of magnesium.
The spasms of coronary arteries & pain could be eased when the magnesium levels are good.
Magnesium adds oil to the circulation, helping to prevent platelets - small particles in the blood - from clotting & sudden death. Another role for magnesium is to keep the complex electrical system in your body regulated. If it is not regulation then auricular fibrillation will occur & this can cause death. 50% of the people that died from heart attacks have normal blood cholesterol but have low blood magnesium.
A study of 85,000 nurses showed that those that took 220 milligrams (mg) of magnesium daily were 33% more likely to develop diabetes then those consuming 340 mg daily.
So how do you get magnesium through your diet? With the skin on, one baked potato is 55 mg of magnesium. Half ounce of almond = 43 mg. One serving of shredded wheat = 40 mg. One cup of low fat yogurt = 43 mg. Half a cup of brown rice = 32 mg. One banana = 32 mg. A 3 ounce grilled salmon = 23 mg. One slice of whole wheat bread = 24 mg. There is magnesium in most fruits & vegetables.
It is important to take magnesium supplements daily. There are a few other vitamins or minerals that are important such as calcium, essential amino acids, vitamin E & several B vitamins. Let's not make the undertaker rich .... let him wait.

Drugs...What is the truth to the effect of drugs on the body?
60% of drug users are in the age group of 15 to 24. The most common abused drug is alcohol. After alcohol, the most harmful are heroin, cocaine, barbiturates & street methadone. Marijuana is a more common illegal drug which is not as harmful as those listed.
People indulging usually start with marijuana & then advance to pill & then mixing all different drugs. Side effects include shakes, hearing voices & being paranoid.
All drugs are poisons. A small amount acts as a stimulant (speeds you up) & larger doses act as a sedative (slows you down) & continuous use of large amounts do kill.
Drugs affect your mind by distorting your perception, causing irrational & inappropriate & destructive behavior. Drugs block off sensations that are normally desireable. Drugs blur your memory. Drugs take away your desire to succeed because they make you feel that your are slow or stupid & life gets harder while taking drugs. Drugs do not make anyone more creative. It is just the opposite.
Constant use tends to build up a tolerance & then more is needed to attempt to reach the goal but using more kills you. With marijuana, you suffer loss of coordination, vision distorting, no sense of time & hearing loss, also sleepiness, reddening of the eyes, increased appetite & relaxed muscles, heart beat increase (by 5 times causing a greater risk of heart attack during the first hour of use), reduced performace & impaired memory plus the inability to solve problems. Long term effect-psychotic symptoms, damage to the lungs, heart & worsening symptoms of bronchitis, coughing & wheezing plus reduces the body's immune system causing inability to fight any illness.

CATEGORIES The Category is by age & weight & the experience as taken from the competition book, will be recorded by the Official in charge of the ‘weigh-in’ binder. All the information will be printed & neatly readable. There will be 3 rounds. Information to follow: Any boxer not declaring any Combat Sport competition will be disqualified from competing if the declaration is untrue. This must be done at the registration desk. Any boxer that does NOT have a bout, may withdraw from the competition & will not be permitted inside the venue unless they forfeit their registration entry fee. Any coach that prefers his/her boxer to have a bout, may apply to the Director of Officials & present a match against an opponent who would be within the regular weight category but not under tournament weights. It will be the decision of the Technical (Vice President) if the bout would be permitted. The Technical (Vice President) will decide if any make-up bouts (no medal) will be allowed. The schedule of bouts, when they are proper matches will be done by the Assistant Director of Officials with the Director of Officials & Vice President assisting. If a boxer fails to make the correct weight but is within a boundary that could have the entire category moved up or down by very limited pounds, this will be put before the coaches at the draw.
The OBA will make every effort to insure that all boxers get at least one bout.
REGISTRATION Remember, the boxer’s category is determined on the official weigh-in date. You may assume a weight category that you believe the boxer will meet, but the actual weight will be recorded when the boxer hits the official scale on Friday. There is a temporary scale for any boxers to check weight before weighing in on the official scale. You can fax the form to 905 356 4089, email to office@ontarioboxing.net. There is a spare scale to check the boxer’s weight before the boxer gets on the official weigh-in scale. The numbered pre-bout medical identifies when the boxer will get the medical. The boxer will complete the ‘Participant’ portion of the Pre-Bout Medical & make certain that they have printed their name neatly. ONLY the boxer’s coach WILL complete the ‘Coach’ portion of the Pre-Bout Medical & sign that they are verifying the condition of the boxer. The next step is to proceed to the weigh-in with the competition book & the completed pre-bout medical & check to see who you follow for your medical. Once, the boxer steps on the official weigh-in scale, that is the weight category that the boxer must maintain through-out the tournament. The weight will be recorded in the boxer’s competition book & also in the Officials Category Book as well as the weigh-in sheet handled by the scale monitor official.
. PROCEDURE AT REGISTRATION DESK All Pre Bout Medicals will be matched against the boxers name to make certain that every boxer has their medical.
During the Draw, there may be boxers that do not fit into a category for various reasons- so at that time, the Chief Official may offer to put the boxer in a different category to allow the boxer a bout. The coaches must voice their approval or rejection at that time & in public. Any question of birth date, must be raised then.
It is the responsibility of the boxer & coach to remain on site, in order to find out when the boxer will box or for contact regarding any changes in the category.
THE DRAW Categories with only 2 boxers does not require a draw. 3 boxers (requires 2 sessions) 4 boxers (requires 2 sessions) 5 boxers (requires 2 sessions) 6 boxers (requires 3 sessions) If the category is too large, it may be broken to two separate categories both having a Gold, Silver & possibly a Bronze winner. THE PROGRAMS At this point, the matches will be given to the appointed program manager, who will make up the program. This is not an easy task & takes time alone to set up the Program. Categories that require 3 days for completion will be scheduled to fight on the first day. So if there are 5 or more boxers in one division, then you are sure that the first bout will be on Friday followed by another bout on Saturday & then the final on Sunday. No boxer can box twice in one day. If necessary, a division in the weight category may be made or a final box-off at a club show will decide the Gold winner. A program (boxing schedule) will be placed on the door of the boxing room room as soon as the program is completed. Do not remove the program from the door. All boxers must be on site & checked in with the Glover 30 minutes before their scheduled bout. Bouts 1, 2 & 3 must be ready at the starting time of the event. Three bouts before each boxer’s scheduled bout, the boxer will report to the Glover in his/her boxing outfit & have the dress checked & gloves for bout put on. Every day that a boxer is scheduled to box, the box must weigh-in & have a pre-bout medical. No exceptions. Boxers not scheduled to box on Saturday, will not weigh-in until Sunday.
POINTS Every boxer will receive one point each time they box regardless of the outcome. The GOLD is 5 points Points are calculated & which ever club gets the most points, will win the Team Trophy which they bring home with them. There will be a male & female award may change depending on the separation of the Novice Category & contestants. The final selection for the awards will be made by: Brodie Boone, the host with the consideration of the .judge’s opinion. The rating system will be handled by Brandon Boone, the Treasurer & former President of the OBA.
